ANZAC day is all about ........

For us today ANZAC day was all about remembering, bike riding and football! Just like last Remembrance Day, I pulled out my grandfathers war medals and taught Hugh all about the significance of this day. The questions that followed....alliances, United Nations, defending a country on and on they went. Great stuff! This old history teacher was proud of her boy. We then headed off for what was to be a shorter bike ride than last time but given the sensational autumn day we clocked up the 30km once again. I am so proud of Hugh. It's a long way for a little guy. We went to Malvern station and rode all the way into the city - well St Kilda actually and Macca's, we were desperate for a refuel - and then back. Riding around the Shrine on a day like today Hugh saw and heard much. We arrived just as the parade was drawing to a close. I am looking forward to taking him back soon. It was hard to ride and take photos - well impossible! - but I tried. So click here to see a few riding shots from today. After all good diggers have paraded, it is then off to the traditional big football clash at the MCG - Hugh and Den's team Essendon versus Collingwood. A sell out crowd of almost 100,000! We went home to watch it on the telly. Having seen all the people wearing their medals in town , the kids came home and called their Pa to tell him they were wearing Great Pa's war medals. The tradition continues.

For my dear OS friends, stay tuned. A LO is in the pipe works regarding what ANZAC day is all about.

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend. I am in awe that you can ride 30km as a family - well done! It's lovely that Hugh & Katie have your Grandfathers's medals to wear.
